Venice Travel Guide – Part 3

Today on the blog I am sharing with you the third and final part of my Venice Travel Guide! Be sure to check out Part 1 and Part 2 in case you missed it!

On our last day in Venice, we stayed on the main island to do few of our leftover activities: 1) Rialto Fish Market 2) Libreria Acqua Alta 3) gondola ride and 4) finally have a sit-down dinner for our last Venetian meal.

1) Rialto Fish Market
Thinking we learned our lesson, we arrived early on a Sunday at the Rialto Fish Market but only to find it closed! As I mentioned in Part 1, it is best to try to catch the market during the weekday before 1PM. We decided to grab a bite to eat on the go and sat by a nearby pier around the Rialto Bridge before heading to one of the quirkiest bookstores in the world!

2) Libreria Acqua Alta
The Libreria Acqua Alta (also known as the Library of High Water) made up for missing the Rialto Fish Market! This is one of the most eccentric and charming bookshops you will ever visit! Books are stacked everywhere – in sinks, tubs, canoes and even in a gondola!

The icing on the cake is a back patio area with a stair way made up of (you guessed it) books leading up to a canal view.

The bookstore is not too far of a walk from the Rialto Bridge but you will definitely stop and ask for directions several times. That is just how getting around Venice is – getting lost and asking for directions over and over again! Here is the address though for reference:
Calle Longa S. Maria Formosa, 5176/b, 30122 Castello, Venezia VE, Italy.

I highly recommend you visiting this gem of an attraction while in Venice. You will not be disappointed!

3) Gondola Ride
After visiting the bookshop, we found a nearby gondola station. Gondola stations are easy to find all around the main island of Venice. A gondola ride will cost you 80 euros. You will not be able to negotiate rates since gondola fares are standard and set officially. The gondola does seat six people so depending on how many is in your party, you can share a gondola with others and split the cost.

To be honest, I think we had high expectations for our gondola ride. We were not impressed with where our gondolier took us. He did not sing (and I know it is not a requirement by any means). He did not narrate the ride. Most would advise to take a gondola ride away from the crowded Grand Canal in the quieter parts of the back canals. But I think we would have rather taken one that stayed on the Grand Canal since our experience was underwhelming.

My daughters did ask our gondolier if there were any women gondoliers and it was interesting to find out that there is only one! Only 1 and the first in history for this 900-year profession. Her name is Giorgia Boscolo. Look her up. Her story is amazing!

4) Sit Down Venetian Dinner
I mentioned in Part 1 that we were mainly grabbing bites to eat on the go as we walked around and explored Venice. But for our last night in Venice, we decided to do a sit down dinner and have the best pizza and pasta! And that we did! We found a quaint restaurant that had outdoor seating and the setting could not have been anymore perfect as the day and night skies met.
